I couldn't get my car to start probably because of the battery, my coworkers car kind of worked but power steering and brakes weren't working normally.

Yeah, oils tend to become less viscous in cold climates. That's why remote engine starters were invented, gotta let the engine & tranny fluid warm up a bit if you don't want bad surprises.

That's because those fluids aren't typically changed often enough (if at all) and are hygroscopic... they absorb water. Water then freezes and those things don't function well. Just a point of reference from someone with a mechanic background and a few decades living in WY, MT and AK.

And yeah, batteries that are on their way out do struggle as temps get colder.

As for the BS news title, they be smoke the crack pipe for clicks again....

Lucas oil stabilizer is like a big tootsie roll when it gets this cold. I kinda like it!
