Correct, and only people can commit crimes. So there's a second reason why he shouldn't be charged.
First, he didn't kill a person. And second, he isn't one. What happened is that two animals got into a conflict in the state of nature, and one of them was dead afterwards. That's nothing special.
I really hate it, when people try to interfere in loving mother nature's processes. It's hubris. Those people should be shot.
