ELI5 why we still don’t have solar panels on the cars yet

Because solar isn't efficient or reliable.

Because a battery weighs as much as 30 liters of fuel.

1hp = 746 Watts. 200HP is 149,139 Watts.

Good luck mounting a 200W solar panel on a car to charge it while it takes 50HP for it to drive at highway speeds.

It would take forever to charge it with the surface area on a car.

electric car momentum is not enough to recharge the batteries either, but it is harnessed while the vehicle is operation anyways. solar, as limited as it may be, can be continually harnessed throughout the day with the vehicle in or out of operation. i’m not suggesting solar being the sole source of energy here.
