Definitely, and natural gas -> electric car is 67% less CO2 per mile than gasoline.
I am all in favor of efficiency. I am even in favor of electric cars. I think for a subset of people they make a lot of sense. Other people need to drive different routes and can't afford to/ don't have room for so many cars. I don't think the government should subsidize the cars. If they want to tax dirty energy, that is ok. I don't think carbon should be taxed as a pollutant at this point.
Tax credits for electric cars are not refundable credits. That means if you didn't pay the money in you don't get it back. Letting you keep some of your money isn't a subsidy.

Well, I'm not a fan of tax credits, either. Flat tax.
EVs should be taxed for the mileage they cover. Gas/diesel vehicles are taxed at the pump, EVs take up road space.
