Hydrogen power - Scotty Kilmer

ELI5 why we still don’t have solar panels on the cars yet

[–] 2 pts

Because solar isn't efficient or reliable.

Because a battery weighs as much as 30 liters of fuel.

[–] 0 pt

1hp = 746 Watts. 200HP is 149,139 Watts.

Good luck mounting a 200W solar panel on a car to charge it while it takes 50HP for it to drive at highway speeds.

It would take forever to charge it with the surface area on a car.

electric car momentum is not enough to recharge the batteries either, but it is harnessed while the vehicle is operation anyways. solar, as limited as it may be, can be continually harnessed throughout the day with the vehicle in or out of operation. i’m not suggesting solar being the sole source of energy here.

YA THINK??????????

Don't worry, there won't be enough people with high enough social credit scores to use all the electricity. Plus there will be apps that make you carpool with Tyrone so you can drop him off at your daughters dormitory as you head into your 12hr work shift. Someone has to be taxed to pay for Israel's child prostitutes and it might as well be the evil White man.

[–] 1 pt

Can't we just steal electricity from white people?

[–] 0 pt

That's very true, and when the Ford Model T began rolling of the production lines we didn't have enough gas to "gasify" all the buggies and wagons. It's almost like supply and demand are related somehow. Funny how that works.

[–] 2 pts (edited )

True but they weren't shutting down refineries then either.

Don't be fucking retarded.

Pot meet kettle, lol.

Derp, can't look past a messenger to see the message. You're fucking retarded.

We're not having any electricity shortages yet. Supply and demand are a thing. Millions of people with rooftop solar are putting a dent in residential demand.

That allows them to close peaker plants without issue.

[–] 2 pts (edited )

Commiefornia would disagree . . . rolling blackouts and such.

How difficult would it be to add a massive amount of infrastructure to provide electricity for hundreds of millions of electric cars? Battery and recharge technology have miles to go before they are viable. I like being able to "recharge" my car in 5 - 7 minutes at the pump. And modern cars do not pollute to any significance. Certainly not more than hundreds of new power plants.

This is all about control of the populous. Everyone mass transit. Sheep will exist on the scraps they dole out, while they private jet everywhere. Our cars are the last vestige of freedom we have now . . .

[–] 0 pt

Nuclear are not peaker plants, retard.

[–] 0 pt

Supply and demand would have you burning natural gas to make electricity. Or coal, or maybe oil at this point, or just about anything other than the green shit. I sincerely hope that fusion works out; let's just wait for that.

[–] 0 pt

Definitely, and natural gas -> electric car is 67% less CO2 per mile than gasoline.

[–] 0 pt

I am all in favor of efficiency. I am even in favor of electric cars. I think for a subset of people they make a lot of sense. Other people need to drive different routes and can't afford to/ don't have room for so many cars. I don't think the government should subsidize the cars. If they want to tax dirty energy, that is ok. I don't think carbon should be taxed as a pollutant at this point.

[–] 0 pt

Elon musk was saying that you just need to cover a corner of Utah and Nevada with solar panels and enough electricity will be had to supply the whole planet with electricity, problem solved.

[–] 1 pt

And then bluetooth the power world wide!

[–] [deleted] 0 pt (edited )

the electric cars should go through above ground wind tunnels. then their power consumption would be far less. there could even be computer-assisted tailgating features. trash gsification is a large untapped power supply.

Time to start building a Dyson sphere

Too late. We won't make it past the Great Filter.

1,000,000 on Mars by 2050 will increase our chances. But I think your probably right once we start mass producing anti matter its game over

[–] 1 pt

Lol 1 million on Mars, you would have to send people to Mars like we send people in planes.

It takes a rocket and months of planning to send two people into space. Now try sending people in a tiny capsule for months. Also you would have to send a boatload of supplies for each person.
