In 2015 I had a chance to visit Rome and Vatican City's square (the small area you can walk around in) which was clear in the day for tourists and at night opened up to the multitudes of illegal migrants to sleep on the grounds/street of the square because they had nowhere to go in Rome. You would not want to be there in the evening, it wasn't safe. The square was not meant to be a holding area for homeless illegal migrants and they should never have tried to attract people to that area as a temporary solution, only causing a problem of people funneling out in the morning into Rome, then funneling back inside the walls at night. The movement of people didn't solve the problem, just shifted it around from morning to night between Rome and the small enclave of Vatican City. Solve the migrant problem that Germany caused by inviting them to EU, that Turkey causes by threatening EU with hordes of Muslin migrants if Turkey doesn't get its way in whatever conflict. Italy, Greece, and Eastern European countries don't want illegal migrants.
