WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - PayPal Holdings said on Monday (Jan 11) that it had blocked a Christian crowdfunding site, GiveSendGo, after it helped raise funds for people who attended last week's event in Washington when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol.

The digital payments processor also confirmed to Reuters that it closed an account held by Mr Ali Alexander, one of the organisers of the gathering. The news was reported earlier by Bloomberg, which cited an unidentified source.

Online platforms and social media companies are distancing themselves from, and taking action against, those who encouraged or engaged in last week's violence in the US Capitol.

Twitter said it has suspended more than 70,000 accounts since last Friday that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content after the assault on the Capitol building.

A number of large US companies, including AT&T, American Express and Dow, have said they would cut off campaign contributions to those who voted to challenge President-elect Joe Biden's victory, with Republicans in the United States Congress facing growing consternation from corporate America.

Supporters of Mr Trump stormed the US Capitol last Wednesday, trying to halt the certification by Congress of Mr Biden's election win.

Mr Trump, who has without evidence challenged the validity of Mr Biden's election win, initially praised his supporters but later condemned the violence.

Bloomberg reported last week that PayPal had closed an account held by Joy In Liberty, one of the groups that paid for supporters of Mr Trump to travel to Washington.

Representatives of GiveSendGo, which describes itself as "a place to fund hope... to work together with the body of Christ around the world to make a difference", could not be reached immediately for comment.

And its all 100% irrelevant because when quantum passes the infancy stage, your bitcoin value drops to 0.

Monero them. It's not to spend here anyway. Buy enough to act as a lifeboat to a new home, in case America goes the way of practically every other country in the Americas. Or stay and fight. But wouldn't it be nice to have the option?

Monero is specifically designed to hide individual transactions so buy/sell is effectively hidden like it is with physical cash. Makes enforcement more difficult and protects you from bad actors who might learn your holdings from selling you a coffee. With BTC it's almost mandatory to have different wallets for different quantities of spending, and to throw them away instead of refill them. You want to make it look like each wallet belongs to a different person, and if you're always refilling a little one from a big one, that can be detected to some degree of certainty. Important, cause if you're escaping then the bad guys will get you before the (also bad) government.
