Agreed. I see people paying a yearly fee for cloud storage and the like, and ask them why they don't just buy an external hard drive with software that automagically backs shit up for them. The answer is always crickets.
While it's certainly not cheap, you can buy 18tb enterprise rated hard drives in a 3.5" format. Most motherboards usually sport at least 6 slots to attach them. That's a lot of storage in one computer case.
What? Ransomware is a reason to pay for cloud storage? Do you even lift brah? Who the fuck is dumb enough to get ransomware in 2021? Oh right! people dumb enough to pay for "secure" cloud storage that is constantly scanned and you do not own the second it leaves your network.
