If the federal agents went after me I'd go out of my way to claim to be antifa/democrat/neocon/etc express all sorts of anti-american values and then advocate for people to vote for democrat leadership, namely figures who should be discredited. Actually the best way to be careful in this case is to push through the negative into the opposite (learned that from the socialists). If you grow fast enough, than any attempt at guilt-by-association is diluted by growth in membership. If you use a committee or ring-model of leadership any attempt to persecute a leader, or use the media to 'elect' a leader/scapegoat in the publics eyes can be countered by simply disclaiming the individual. In fact, anyone dedicated should, when isolated by the legal system, actively disassociate *themselves* from their respective org or movement. Network models also hold this advantage but are less resilient to attacks where media attempts to narrative-frame and destroy some glowinthedark or other in order to discredit the whole group. That was part of the problem with occupy, they were open to being co-opted.
