Great point. I bought one of these once. It stunk a bit, at first. I bought it anyway, since it was cheap. The smokers smell goes away pretty quickly, surprisingly after a light washing and vacuuming of everything inside.
An ozone generator works wonders for eradicating bad smells and other organic residue eq. fungal blooms. Although with the recent cowid scare, it might be a bit difficult to source or rent.
Ozone is a strong oxidizer, and will react with all volatile (smelly) chemical compounds. It's a bit aggressive towards rubber parts, so it's best not to use it too often. Thin layer of pure silicone oil helps with protecting the rubber parts, especially door seals.
