It is amazing people don't even have enough savings to cover a single month of expenses.
And there are so many people that are able to save but don't. I made a co-worker figure out how much his wife and daughter spent at Starbucks every month and he was floored. I think it was over $500.
Yep, between eating out and driving a newer/nicer car than you need. Most Americans are pissing away hundreds every month that could go into a savings account.
People spend every dime they get.
I live in a metro area where, if you're making 100k a year, you're living pretty large. One of my co-workers, on he and his wife's salary of 130k combined, couldn't afford a modest house and had to move back to the in-law suite above the garage at her parent's place. The first thing he started talking about was all the money he was going to start spending on "improvements" and crap. We're all like well maybe you should put some money back since you pretty much failed at finance last week. Nope, not a dime to his name.
It really is amazing how poorly some people manage money. You are right, even people that are in a high income range for their area still seem to fail at this.
Some just don't seem to understand that you need to have a little bit for tomorrow, because stuff tends to Happen.
Tell me about it. Given my terrible history of money burning holes in my pocket, I have a hard time believing that I, myself, actually have savings to make it through the summer if I had to.
If this happened to me in my 20's.. dear God.. I'd already be on the street.
