Pakistan mainly happened because of Gandhi. He supported the creation of Pakistan yet at the same time asked Muslims to NOT move to Pakistan and stay in India during partition. This is why he was assassinated by a Hindu nationalist in 1948.

Gandhi was controlled opposition along with the likes of Nehru and the Indian National Congress. They fucked India's economy with socialist policies for decades until the late 80s/90s which was when the Indian right wing (BJP & RSS) finally started to become resurgent.
