I've always contended spears were the weapon of choice for the zombie apocalypse.

I learned kendo as a kid, but I tell you what... a spear beats a sword almost any day of the week and a spear takes no training to master. Sword takes years to master and kid with spear and shield can still kill you, no problem.

Here's a photo of the home with cops around it (pic8.co). It doesn't look like a shithole. The sidewalk and street don't have bananna peels strewn all over. So it might turn out that the kid is just fucking nuts.
