Instead of just giving Ukraine money with no strings attached, Trump had the gall to actually ask them for something in return. Everyone knows America is suppossed to just give money without asking for anything. When giving foreign aid American Presidents typically call the receiving country to thank them for taking our taxpayers money. That's the democratic way!
