Koalas are not endemic to Kangaroo Island. They are effectively an introduced species that has bred to plague proportions before their population was substantially reduced by large fires in 2020, but is not at risk at all.

The greenies story that koalas are in some danger of extinction is stupid. It's similar to the past bear issue, they were under threat from hunting in the early 20th century, but once that stopped their populations have stabilised. Land use change has reduced their habitat, but there remain VAST areas of bushland in koala habitat areas.
