Japanese saws are designed to cut on the pull for precise controlled sawing as opposed to the traditional American handsaw that cuts on the push. One side is for ripping and the other for crosscut. The thicker blade of the pruning style saws allow the cuts to be made in both pull and push. The curvature provides extra force and control with little effort. The HF saw will surprise you and it’s cheap!
