I've always liked butterflies and moths but never paid much attention to them until this year. I took a couple of pictures of butterflies I came across and uploaded them to the site.
Contributions help the people behind the site with their butterfly/moth population and migration research.
I wish I had known about something like this 19 years ago, I spent a summer working marble and granite in mausoleums and some of the moths there would get huge like 6 inches across or more and they would perfectly match the patterns on the stone, I almost want to go back see if I can find some again.
Woah. They learned how to blend with the stone to hide from predators. Awesome! I wonder how many generations it took to develop. Probably not many. I've seen articles where it takes something like 2 or 3 generations to blend with the environment.
I don't know but you would not believe how pretty they were, greens blues everything in between it was crazy now I regret not taking pictures. On the other hand smart phones didn't exist back then and I didn't bring a camera to work with me every day so not entirely on me.
