I understand what you're saying, I agree. But remember, we've all been indoctrinated to not take responsibility for anything other than getting people's pronouns correct. My first instinct would have been to grab my firearm... but that's me. Bullets arrive at the problem much faster than political enforcement.
I carry on my property regularly. Bringing a gun to a lion fight is preferred. However, without a gun, a grown male is still a formidable opponent to a wild animal. I have sent black bears packing with nothing more than an aggressive " Hey Bear!". Mountain lion are stealth predators and very weary of injury. Its surprise attack was foiled by the dog. A man joining the fight would have sent the cat running as too opponents are too great a risk of injury. Dialing 911 instead of protecting his dog was the wrong response.
