Just took a trip this direction. Badlands was a great day trip. Black Hills hiking and Custer was really nice as well. Honestly Rushmore was the worst part of the trip. The whole thing was under construction and typical touristy area. If you do Rushmore take Iron Mountain road in; very scenic and well planned.
