Socialism only works when you have a collective identity. Family, faith, ethnicity, race, these are identifiers that unite for the common good. They are, by nature, exclusionary, and must be limited with easy markers by which the average man can identify and empathize for his fellow.

It did not work. It needed to conquer and parasitize the economies of neighboring nations to pay for the German public's "gibs". It needed to continually expand until its reach exceeded its grasp.

I somewhat disagree. There was definitely a demand for more "liebensraum", people wanted out of the cities, but it was coasting off the repudiation of its debt and confiscation of the assets of the Jews and other political enemies, it was rapidly developing industry and could have continued indefinitely - except the government structure (1) had its own problems with corruption and (2) needed an enemy to direct the public against in order to distract from that corruption. Its neighbors' political and economic sanctions didn't help the situation either. Kind of similar to what's happening now with the US and many other spots in the world.

Needed to do what they were accused of doing anyways. Could have saved the world not just Germany.
