Who can live on $30/hour? Come on man, make it at least $50! Show some kahunas. Go big or not at all.

I'll never understand where the basic economics gets lost in this debate.

  • If higher wages are paid, the cost of all products and services increases.
  • If the cost of products and services increases, the wage increase was illusory and gained nothing.

Whatever is set for the minimum wage, then will be the cost of a damp basement apartment, a 10 year old Camry, and a bougie pair of jeans from the secondhand store; e.g. the new wage will purchase the same stuff as the minimum wage now buys. The only gain will be a loss in the purchase power of the currency.

What a strange game this is.

It's strange because the announcement is the reward in politics, not the outcome. A politician scores political points by announcing reparations, gun control, lowering crime, helping the homeless, lowering gas prices, being sanctuary cities and so on.

The outcomes don't matter because it takes years before anyone ever questions it. By then, they're out of office.

In this case, the announcement is $30 per hour minimum wage! Wow! Great, the politician gets credit for that. The outcome makes no difference.

And even more New Yorkers will be fleeing to my state, which they will eventually ruin by continuing to vote Democrat...

All the wages go to rent.

Just build and deport until rent/mortgage is like 30% of a person's wage and not 50-70%.

Some will say:

But that would destroy home owning boomers and mortgage owning banks!

But I say:

Even better!
