Have you seen the boxes recently? they package the cookies like boxes of chocolates now. It's not even a tray. so its literally 6 bucks for like 15 cookies.
I was going to say that girl scout cookies have gotten crazy expensive. I stopped buying them when, as you pointed out, the trays of cookies had large spaces or gaps between the cookies. That was it for me.
Girl Scout cookies are usually 30–100% more expensive than grocery store cookies of comparable size.
And, if reports are to be believed, they're also laced with cancer causing chemicals.
Most commercial bakeries put all kinds of chemical crap into their products. So yea, very likely true.
They've always been expensive but it's possible they have now reached a price point that most people are saying no thanks. I heard about the chemicals for the first time this year too. That can't help. All that aside, I haven't seen a single person selling them.
