Disarming The People IS what caused the out of control crime. Disarming law enforcement will Give the criminal complete control of the entire city.
Just allow them to carry full-auto SMG's. They are not really a long gun and they are easier to use in urban combat zones.

Aren’t the rifles mostly for show? I don’t think they let grunts run around in civilian areas with loaded guns of any type. Maybe they are all military police? I think that the state troopers that got called up at the same time are going to be better armed. But that varies state to state. Isn’t the NYPD around a 50,000 man force? Pretty much a small standing army for the city.
At any rate you’ll know that the mayor of New York City is serious about cracking down on crime when they start carrying flamethrowers.
They are most likely unloaded. My Dad was in the marines, we would see grunts patrolling the beach around dusk. He would always laugh when he saw them because they were carrying empty rifles.
They can still carry pistols.
With all the hotels full of illegals, I wonder if they put the NG in the parking garage again.
