I used to see this guy in my neighborhood getting coffee at Dunkin and gave him a nod, but he is self-aggrandizing opportunist. I don't know how this guy has been on television and radio for 40 years, lived with a millionaire bitch 5 years ago, runs an organization that gets donations, yet still rents a tiny studio apartment with his wife and 17 cats. This guy can't even manage his finances and his sex addiction. How is he going to manage a city?
All true (I guess), but he DID something about the rampant crime in his city, instead of waiting for the cops to do everything. The Guardian Angels did make a difference in street-level quality-of-life.
A very minimal difference. Maybe in the 1st 10 years, they were somewhat worthwhile, but when I was a young man, they were mostly homeless kids and people that were too pussy to join a real gang or too stupid or mentally defective to become a cop.
One time, when I was 18, I found myself surrounded by 6 of them and I barked loud and they all bitched up.
Now, a good deal of them are my age or older and they’re just a bunch of fat slobs in satin bowling jackets posting up flyers and looking for screen tile on the local news. They look like losers.
You don't think the deterrent factor was worthwhile? At least they were out there, while others cowered in fear. Sliwa, for all his faults, is a real street fighter, and local punks did fear him, not sure about today.
