Not every situation is going to be ideal. The guy just committed a violent crime (1.5 violent crimes if you want to count shoving the cop) and is now running around with a gun out. He has to be taken into custody. Once that gun came out, all bets are off.
Rules of engagement and public protection still exist. Can’t just go Rambo without regard for consequences which may have a higher casualty rate than chasing and disabling the Perp when better conditions exist.
The criminal has the gun out and the police have identified themselves and told the guy to drop it. That is your rule of engagement. Were their actions contrary to the procedure recommended in the NYPD Patrolman’s Guide, you can rest assure that in a woke society that they would be disciplined. Once a gun is produced and the offender refuses commands to drop it, he gets shot. That’s it.
Not arguing that, just taking a clean shot.
