Hell yes. Fun group. Good tunes. Packaged deal. Davy & Micky & Tork & Nesmith & Nesmith's sublime 12 String Gretsch. The Wrecking Crew did the majority of The Monkee's recorded output. Just as they did a lot of the other LA bands of that era. The Partridge Family, The Byrd's, The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, The Mama's & The Papa's, Sonny & Cher, Ike & Tina, Simon & Garfunkel, Frank & Nancy, et al. Fuck, Phil Spector's entire Wall of Sound was The Wrecking Crew. And yes, The Monkee's we're a fluffy sugar coated indulged guilty pleasure delight.

You nailed it. Exactly how I grew up. Cher without Sonny was a tragedy. Thank god for weird Al.

Yes The Monkees were good fun but they were not a studio band. They weren't even musicians, though they did eventually learn to play their instruments well enough to go on tour. They were actors hired for the TV show and thanks to the catchy tunes that were written for them they became popular in their own right.

You may call me a dreamer, but I'm not.

Been listening to WAY more old tunes and especially watching videos of old bands perform lately. Think I've figured out why...

Solid gold oldies, of the 50's, the 60's, 70's... That's old people music, enjoyed by my parent's generation. Old music for old people. Looking at these bands now as I approach middle age, I notice something "strange" about these bands. They are all younger than I am now. I'M the "old" fucker now. And watching these "kids" (21 years old is a kid to me now) play the oldies on TV shows that ended decades before I was born gives me this weird feeling. Not saying I don't enjoy the tunes, I really do. It's just I think it's not helping my impending midlife crisis any.

Michael Nesmith wasn't fond of his jew handlers who took all the credit. They were a talented group. RIP Mike!
