They sound to different, they used to have an impatient sound or a anxiety riden sound but now they are moving away from the emotion into trying to just write music and it's failing to move me emotionally. It was like rising rising rising falling hard, then rising, rising repeat. Now it's put some cords together and make a song not emotional enough compared to the last stuff. I think the loss of addiction had removed creativity also, just to slow and on and on and on. Its like some of the 70's groups when they stopped doing drugs and their music shit itself. Hell luckily Mick Jagger kept fucked up so the stones retained some soul. It remind me when in the late 80's aerosmith did that album dude looks like a lady and love on an elevator, it was total shit.

The first time listening to the whole album I kinda had the same reaction...as did I with 10000 Days initially...then I went thru them again and got more out of them. Instrumentally I think the new album is a masterpeice....as far as Maynards contribution I am still on the fence. I was told that Adam and Danny write and lay the instrument tracks and then send them over to Maynard so he can write and lay vocals. Seperate processes. If this is true, it seems to me that he left alot of open space in songs where vocals could've been laid. Not sure if by design or not. I gotta say...it was refreshing to me to hear some new rock that hasnt been put thru a record companys filter. I have yet to hear a radio station play a new song.....which I think is a good thing?
