It was originally titled 'Paint It Black' without a comma but was originally released as "Paint It, Black" on their Aftermath album. The comma being an error by Decca Records, and stirred controversy among fans over its racial interpretation.

Keith Richards explained to fans and verified that the comma was added by the record label, Decca.
