They were one of the groups that impressed me more with their musical ability rather than the quality of their recordings. I've been a fan of theirs for decades, but I never had high enough quality equipment to hear the lacking quality.
Alan parsons was the opposite... excellent recording quality, but mostly mediocre music. His instrumental stuff is a good example... the same riffs/arpeggios, just laid out in a chord progression that, honestly, could've been played on a Casio keyboard. At least on dsotm he had some brilliant musicians providing the source material.
