He went cold turkey. Apparently it drove him over the edge.

The day he died he did it and his autopsy had no alcohol or illegal drugs in it. A popular rumor is his girlfriend locked herself in a bathroom because he called a drug dealer over, they had a dispute and they killed him.

Personally I think he had the balls to end it. I know I never could put a knife in my heart and know I had a million dollars in the bank.
