I didn't know that and I'm from that area (Houston).
Wiki says the song is about the one I'm talking about, but there's no Asian people there, but a grove of Chinaberry trees was prominent there once.
They're kind of undesirable and we try to get rid of them (the trees, not the Asians, although...).
