Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27 ‘Moonlight Sonata’ by Ludwig van Beethoven
Beethoven completed his Piano Sonata No. 14 in 1801 and dedicated the work to his pupil Countess Giuletta Guicciardi. The original title Beethoven gave to this sonata was ‘Quasi una fantasia’ or ‘like a fantasy’. The name ‘Moonlight’ sonata was given by a German music critic named Ludwig Rellstab after Beethoven had died. The work is comprised of three movements: I. Adagio sostenuto II. Allegretto III. Presto agitato
