The flag represents resistance to federal/centralized government. Guns are kinda necessary for that. Do you have any quotes or anything of them being anti-gun?
Like I said its disputed, do your own search and decide. It all depends on the results. This is a recent quote though.

Interesting. Both in that it isn’t what I’d expect from a southern rocker, but also in that he’s talking about background checks and has been dead for almost 50 years.
But I will say that at face value, that quote is awful.
