The Barber of Seville: Overture by Gioachino Rossini
The Barber of Seville is one of many musical adaptations of the popular plays by French Playwright Pierre Beaumarchais. Rossini composed his adaption in 1816 and reportedly only took three weeks to finish the work. The Opera premiered at the Teatro Argentina in Rome of the same year, to a poor reception. Despite this the opera would go to on to become one of the best known of Rossini’s compositions.
