So I've been plugging away at aeolian and mixolydian and the strangest thing I noticed. E aeolian for example has the exact same notes as G major. I know you already know that. So here I am memorizing the pattern for aeolian when I already know the major scale and suddenly I forgot why the hell I'm doing this.

Only faggots learn scales. The fastest way to learn any instrument is to play along with the radio. Doesn't matter what song/style it is, just attempt to play along with it, even the commercial jingles. A few months of this, and you can join any band. Switch between stations, dive into everything. You may THINK you hate jazz or country, but how much have you actually listened to?

Bands mostly want versatile players, not the guy that can nail a Van Halen solo, but is useless for anything else. If you can jump in a unfamiliar song, esp. an original that the band throws at you, your place is all but guaranteed. Play along with the radio.
