I like Supertramp because their sound seemed really good. However, today I noticed a ton of compression especially in their live recordings. But even much of their studio recordings have a lot of compression.

Specifically "Another man's woman live" had exaggerated compression. "Gone Hollywood" also had more compression than I remember.

Is it possible to find remastered versions where they tone those effects down or off completely?

Probably not remastered versions, they almost always ramp up the compression. Best to seek out rips of early CD's or vinyl.

Back in the '80s, ZZ Top released Six-pack, their first 6 albums in one CD box set. The compression made it unbearable to listen to.

I remember that, I think wasnt it billy gibbons who remastered it? At any rate it sucked.

There was a long running series of releases labeled 'Original Master Recording', might be what you're looking for.
