I'm sure they do break at some point. And even before that they will gradually degrade in fidelity. Since they still make parts for them, and even that upgraded electronics board she mentioned, I would assume they must have replacement tape sets. It would seem likely they now have a master digital copy and produce new tapes from that. I wonder if new tapes have the same warmth now.
