It doesn't play as embedded player for me on debian ungoogled-chromium. However it does on the vid8 site by clicking on the title

Ahh, opening in new tab worked. Thanks for the tip. I noticed others having the same issue with embedded audios though, so perhaps this can be resolved at some point.

This is a different issue. When the expando sees a vid8 audio link it sometimes thinks it’s a video.
I need to add some extra detection code.
