I went to an ICP show with a friend when we were in high school.

We had no idea what it was about, we thought it was comedy rap.

We showed up in khaki shorts and white shirts - crowd of people in all black with facepaint.

Nobody gave a shit, everybody was chill af and put on no airs about themselves.

Standing in line for the show was like being at the red carpet run for the oscars. Old beat up hooptie cars would pull up to drop off clowns before parking - and we had the whole crowd working together to ignore the cars pulling up until the clowns get out, then we would all turn and scream and cheer like THEY were the band.

It was hilarious. People scared shitless because a crowd of 2000 people just turned and exploded into cheers from a dead hush - then they realize were all pointing and clapping at them and they start shuffling, dancing, whooping it up with their faygo bottles and joints and action figures and whatnot.

At one point I got so cringed out from the line of people chanting all the songs, so in a moment of dead silence, I started up my own chant "Well chant anything! Well chant anything!"

Sure as shit, two guys behind me follow, four guys over there, a dozen people down the way - and pretty soon we had 2000 people screaming in perfect rhythm "WELL CHANT ANYTHING!"

Self aware weirdos were amusing.

In the show, the people were a big family, joints being passed with impunity, no tension, nothing but chill mode.

The clowns did their thing on stage, and me in my white shirt, oh boy, did I get soaked in a rainbow of cheap soda as they shot a thousand gallons of faygo off the stage in a multitude of delivery systems.

Did not know what to expect, but probably the coolest show Ive been to - and Ive been to a shitload of shows - not only have I played music and gigged with bands for 15 years, I love going to the small hardcore and underground shows, so Ive seen tons of venues of varying size and crowd participation.

The connection between the crowd and ICP was unparalleled, and Ive attended a ton of shows in many countries.
