Nine times out of ten the original is always better. I think that cover is too over-the-top with the sadness aspect. Playing the song in that slightly upbeat, minor key like the original makes it all the more unsettling.
I thought of the song this morning, it's like if Clown World was a song.
See that would be a reason to reissue a song again to change it to something like 'clown world'.
I had to look up the remake because I couldn't remember who did the Donnie Darko version. It was covered again, sounds identical to Gary Jules but it has one of those breathy female vocalists I can't stand
