He never finished it, right?

That I could not tell you.

Paved the way for the Romantic era.

I appreciate music has gradually been evolving harmoniously in complexity up until the 1900s and then it all started falling apart.

Some people think Jazz is the next step in complexity of music, I think it's bored musicians whose egos are so big it makes them terrible at socialising and nobody wants to admit that the whole genre is terrible.

The reason why classical is so great is because they have one person who organizes the musicians and properly coordinates them. I don't think in this age of ADD and altruism that we'll get any good orchestral pieces.

For instance Carl Jenkins is just repetition and a mere echo of what was. He can write 2 minutes of emotion max and just loops it from there. He has no inspiration to make a whole actual act/story in music.

Yeah. Jazz gets your ear used to these dissonant 7/9/11/13 chords and then you can basically play random notes and people love it. I do this to great effect around Christmas with Vince Guaraldi stuff. Often rhythm takes priority over other aspects like pitch, melody, counterpoint, etc. and I think it loses a lot of flavor.

In Classical music, the composer agonizes over every measure, every note. Even the notation looks elegant.

The scenes they paint just with sound.
