Yes. I've found (haven't tried them all) that if it has strings and a fret board, I can play it. (I can't read music.)
I'm the opposite, I learned sheet music early and I think it might have hurt my ability on fretted instruments, it's a different paradigm than keyboards.
I rock out on my jew harp sometimes. No joke.
Nice dude, could never figure out how to make that sound good.
Also I've been putting this off - I enjoy your username, it reminds me of 2013. Different times we live in now.
Yeah. I like this name. Retired it from Voat to here and decided to just pick it back up.
I play several instruments, I read music, but writing for some reason eludes me (Talentwise). everyone's against me.
Writing mostly is just straight up copying with small changes. It might be interesting to learn some basic theory, the first few episodes of this podcast (musicstudent101.com) helped me.
I see you have never studied Bach's Canons and Fugues.
On the contrary sir. Bach was a complete genius and I have studied his work. Most impressive to me is how prolific he was... over 1000 known compositions plus many hundreds more lost forever.
Still though... Every once in a while we get a JS Bach, then for the next 100 years everyone copies off of him. Then we get a Beethoven and everyone does that for 100 years. Then we get a Chopin, etc... ergo composition is mostly plagiarism.
yes but that doesnt matter right now
I play piano, can’t read music well but play by ear.
A little guitar and uke too.
Also make beats on the puter.
You?
Piano. Trying to learn guitar but I lose motivation.
Hmm I wonder why.
Just saw a video about a 30 day guitar finger crawl exercise that could make you a rockstar!
I make music on the instrument of your wife's cunt with my dick.
The music is very rhythmic, and it is reminiscent of meat slapping together.
I could never read sheet music but was able to play by listening and watching. After a couple years of my teachers being cunts about it I just moved on.
I play mostly guitar, but play bass, piano, saxophone, clarinet, sitar, lap steel, ukulele, sing and I do write music as well.
Damn, triple threat - keyboard, fretted, and woodwind. Plus singing. Just a hobby or do you manage to make any money at it?
Mostly hobby. My main musical gig has been guitar for my technical death metal band, which doesn’t make much money (shocking I know). With this last year shutting down our music scene; I’ve been thinking more about shifting over to a more approachable sound, and have started writing/recording a few new bluesy, jazzy type tunes recently.
If only there was a thread every Friday night were people could share their music, any instrument, any skill level. That would be so cool.
Just show up in s/guitar every Friday night starting at 8pm et. The thread will be stickied all week until the next one, but it's most active on Friday nights. You're welcome to just hang out and of course if you play, record something and post it. There's lots of free music hosts if you don't have one, Vocaroo is not preferred but if that's all you have it's OK (they auto-delete after a while and we archive all tracks submitted.) Here's a list of some suggested sites https://fngt.gq/general-discussion/upload-sites/.
Hope to see you there. Rock On!
