They can be beautiful instruments - both the mandolin and the guitar. Many are just items of sheer beauty.
I find the curves on some guitars to be more alluring than the curves on many women. I have fallen asleep with my guitar on the bed beside me - many times. If I didn't have the missus, I probably still would.
