When you have elderly relatives getting care from nurses, check up frequently to make sure the care and medical decisions actually make sense.
One of the worst habits of nurses is to put food in front of an elderly patient and then throw it out after the person didn't eat, without helping them or taking into consideration if there is dementia or the person is fatigued and sleeping during meal time. Or if the nurses don't feel like cleaning someone up after defecation and don't move the person or provide the right bed so that bed sores develop and get infected.
Regular visits keep the staff on their toes knowing that someone will be around. My grandma always got taken care of right away cuz she had her kids & spouses and nephews/ nieces & spouses and grandkids visiting everyday. She had at least 3-4 visitors in a day 4-5 days a week the staff never knew when someone would come to see her so they never relaxed.
