After the fatal attack on a schoolgirl on Monday in Illerkirchberg (Alb-Donau district), police have released details of the crime.
A 27-year-old fugitive is a suspect in the crime.
In Oberkirchberg, a suburb of Illerkirchberg in the Alb-Donau district, a man attacked two girls on their way to the school bus on Monday morning. The suspect is a 27-year-old from Eritrea. According to police and the public prosecutor's office in Ulm, the man attacked the schoolgirls presumably with a knife. One of them was resuscitated at the scene, but the 14-year-old died later in hospital.
The other girl, a 13-year-old schoolgirl, was seriously but not life-threateningly injured, a police spokesman said. The suspect had come from an asylum shelter and fled back there after the crime. He and two other men were found there in the morning.
According to the information, the suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries. There he is currently under police guard. The other two men were taken to the police station. In addition, a knife was seized, which can be considered as a weapon.
Still no motive for the attack on the schoolgirl in Illerkirchberg
According to a police statement, it is still unclear why the girls were attacked. It is currently being investigated how the crime occurred, whether the suspect and the two schoolgirls knew each other beforehand. Police stress that they are aware that events of this kind stir up fears and emotions. It therefore asks not to harbor any general suspicion against strangers, those seeking protection or asylum seekers in general, or to encourage or support such suspicions.
