They touched on this briefly, but they really don't offer any arguments to debunk it and that's the sort of pseudo science that bugs me. They'll just dismiss the academic performance as a result of economic conditions or some vague appeal to historic discrimination. They don't really ever have to prove this with data, they just cite some book where an academic basically made a feel-good guess and then they'll call it a day. It really is illuminating how anti-science the pro-science people will turn in an instant when it goes against their "religion."
