Theologically, for me, these present day Jews HAVE to be the Jews, the Hebrews of old, the children of Abraham. They became more and more rebellious over the centuries and were chastised until their biggest judgment after their rejection of the messiah.

At this point I do believe the modern 'Jews' are descendants of the 12 tribes (or two?) and that they are indeed the children of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
People here have a hard time hearing that they (jews) are (or were) 'the chosen people.' It's hard because they see how evil they are. As a result, completely, it seems, denying the possibility that they simply were good guys that went bad. Is that not possible? Of course it is. They 'blew' their 'chosen chance' so to speak.
Of course, there's so much more to it.
