tldr; It was okay. Didn't hate it, but nothing special either.

I'm not a huge Stephen King fan, though I do respect his imagination and have enjoyed a few of the books and movies over the years. Firestarter was one of the books I read, probably 15 years or so ago. Didn't even know there was a movie remake coming out until last night when my wife and I were surfing for something to fall asleep to. The book was definitely better than the movie. That said, we ended up both staying up to finish the movie.

The movie stuck to the story for the most part. A lot of detail from the book got left out, which I guess is to be expected. I didn't see anywhere in the movie where it directly shit on the book though. I remember a lot more fucked up shit happened in the book as a result of the father using his 'push' ability. They left pretty much all of that out of this movie.

Only woke shit I noticed was a jab at parents limiting screen time. The teacher tried to override what the girl's parents taught her about screen time being bad for you with saying that it's okay sometimes, and it would even improve her grades. That was pretty much it though. No faggots or anything like that ever showed up.

So yeah, not a bad watch. I might get the DVD if I find it in the $5 bin. Not going to go out of my way to watch it again though. I'd rather reread the book.

This movie is watchable if you haven't seen the original movie with George C. Scott, who steals the movie from the other actors. The original is better.
