To open the portal to 'The End' where you fight the boss, you have to fill the 12 spots around the portal with eyes. Usually some of them are already filled in. I got none already filled in. Since you have to use some of them to find the portal to begin with, and even though I had brought extra for that reason, I only had 11 left over.
