lol, yes I could tell, you sounded like a recruiter lmao.

My dad was a lot older when he had me. He was born during the depression and volunteered during Korea at 17. His dad had lost his farm, was an alcoholic, abusive and they barely had any food. So he loved the army.

Only 5 people including him made it home but he never complained or had ptsd, he said it got him out of a bad situation.

Now the other kids I was friends with their fathers, grandfathers or uncles had been to Vietnam and told them all not to join or talk to recruiters. My best friend wanted to join with me for the “buddy program” but his dad refused.

It’s a crazy place especially when you’re around regular soldiers. Test scores are so low for combat arms jobs and then in September before the end of the fiscal year they let everyone with a pulse into any job position (mos) so they can meet their recruiting quotas.

I went to basic with a bunch of dumbasses but we had one “Pyle” type kid. He never talked, people would walk by and punch him in the arm and he wouldn’t flinch. He didn’t know left from right.

We had another who addressed his letter to “mom and dad” it was returned and they yelled at him lol. So he put “mom and dad” on the first line then “Kansas” on the second lmao. He got yelled at again then two of us were assigned to help him with everything.

It was like being in a clown show.

Once you get to your unit those same type of clowns are now in charge and some are very docile but let the crazies run the place. That’s why you have to protect yourself. It’s hard to predict stupid but you start to find a pattern and try to avoid it at all costs.

Want to bug them, ask relevant questions to what you’re currently doing. Once a couple guys taught me that it was hilarious. They get all bent out of shape trying to explain something stupid but can’t punish you for wanting to know how to do something.

But luckily I accidentally met someone important and got an MOS(job) change a year or two in(which is unheard of), transferred to a new base/fort and was basically out of the army but still in(special unit). Only high iq’d people for the most part, the others you ignored. You were on call 24/7 though, the only downside.

I had to extend for a year or two to switch mos’s and transfer but after a couple of years people had come and gone and that place was getting crazy also. I became silent again, always acted extremely busy, waited for my ETS date(discharge) and got out.

It was so fun the first 1-2 years I would’ve stayed in forever but you learn early on in the military things can change overnight even with just one person leaving or coming in. And the slow change that was taking place was a reminder to get the fuck out.

Last I heard it became a total shit show as everyone else also didn’t re-enlist or got transferred to a new base/fort as you usually do every few years. A bunch of power hungry idiots/low iq’d had replaced them and turned it into the real army even though we were separate.

Over 50 years and it was never like the army and in a span of six to twelve months it was ruined and finally dissolved and reorganized. No idea what it’s like now but the fun is gone I’m sure.
